Last Friday, June 6th, we held the last workshop of the Living Lab de la Hunde in Ayora, as part of the SALAM-MED project.

🌍 What is SALAM-MED?
This project is an initiative funded by the European Union’s PRIMA program, designed to develop innovative and sustainable solutions in Mediterranean territories affected by soil and water degradation. https://www.salam-med.org/

🤝 To achieve this, they rely on Living Labs: spaces where government, civil society, academia, and businesses collaborate to find solutions adapted to the local context, combining technical and local knowledge.

🔎 What did we do in this workshop?

✔️ We selected the most appropriate adaptive forest management alternatives, using the CAFE DSS tool. This tool allows us to observe the effect of the selected management on the improvement of various key ecosystem services such as water, biomass, biodiversity, and fire prevention. 🪵💧🔥🍃

✔️ This selection was based on the work of the second workshop, where the most important ecosystem services were prioritized and different management scenarios for the territory were designed.

✔️ We also incorporated an analysis of the Valencian population’s willingness to pay to improve certain services; and the CANVAS tool helped us reflect on how adaptive forest management can contribute to our work activities.

📌 Although this was the last session of the participatory process, it is not the end: all the information generated will be key for future management decisions that can inspire other experiences in the Mediterranean region.
